The wide hinterland encompasses the MacGillycuddy Reeks mountain range with Carrauntoohil - Ireland's highest mountain, Tomies Wood - Ireland's largest remaining indigenous oak woodland, The Black Valley and The Gap of Dunloe - a spectacularly beautiful mountain pass. There is a shop and choice of pubs within walking distance. Killarney (10 km) offers restaurants, shops, jaunting cars, sights, varied night life, two 18-hole golf courses, bicycle hire, pony trekking and the famous lakes.
