As you might expect, Ireland is also home to a wonderful choice of dog-friendly days out with everything from inviting local bars and restaurants to long hikes and walks. Enjoying a boat trip to the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway is a great way to get out and about. Dogs are allowed on most of the ferries that take you to the islands, with crossings taking place all year from Rossaveel, as well as Doolin in the summer (both are in Galway).   

There are also plenty of dog-friendly bars and restaurants across Ireland, so you’ll never be short of somewhere to relax and enjoy a refreshing drink and a bite to eat. 360 Cookhouse in Waterford has its very own doggy menu and has won multiple awards for being one of the most pet-friendly destinations in Ireland. The Pins Gastro Bar in Galway also offers a dog-friendly menu and has a cute dog theme throughout. 

If you are planning on travelling to Ireland with your dog, it should be noted that there are now rules that apply in the wake of Brexit the Brexit transition. Pets travelling to Ireland from Great Britain now require a microchip, rabies vaccine, worming treatment and pet health certificate or EU pet passport. This does not include UK-issued pet passports from or prior to 1 January 2021. For visitors arriving from Northern Ireland there is no change in rules for travelling with your pet.
