Much of the north of County Waterford is mountainous, with the Comeragh and Knockmealdown ranges the most prominent.  This rugged natural beauty gives way to gentle grassland landscaped with castles and cathedrals and scenic river valleys with well kept estates and fresh green plantations.  To the south the charming coastline has sheltered, unfrequented covers alternating with broad beaches, tall cliffs and sea caves.

Waterford City was a great meeting place of historical paths and the byways and side streets of the old town centre provide a microcosm of Irish history.  The city is now world famous for the beauty of its shimmering crystal and its best known landmark is Reginald's Tower, a massive stone Viking fortress, still in perfect condition, though heavily restored.

Tramore, seven miles from Waterford, is Ireland's leading seaside resort with numerous attractions centred around its immense area of flat sandy beach.  Inland, the beautiful Nire Valley has magnificent panoramic views from the mountains and is an area of great natural beauty.  The Blackwater valley, with its flanking hills and numerous wooded stretches, provides the finest river scenery in Ireland. The picturesque town of Lismore, through which the Blackwater flows, is beautifully situated at the foot of the Knockmealdown Mountains. Further west, Ardmore is a seaside resort with a good beach situated in an area of great scenic beauty and steeped in history.  At Dungarvan there is excellent deep sea and shark fishing. Cappoquin and Tallow offer find sport amid beautiful surroundings. East of Waterford city the Dunmore East area is the ideal family holiday spot with its quaint and picturesque charm.
